A fine example of a WW1 Pattern 1907 bayonet by Sanderson for use with the Short Magazine Lee Enfield (SMLE) rifle. The bayonet is in good antique condition with the locking button functional.
Marks (left ricasso) : Crown and "G.R." (George Rex - King George) over "1907" (pattern model) over "5" and "16" (manufacture date - May, 1916) over "SANDERSON" (manufacturer).
Marks (right ricasso) : War Office broad arrow and "X" (bend test stamp) with 3 Enfield inspection stamps. Also "'17" (1917 - later inspection date).
Marks (handle spine) : "X" and "EFI" (Expeditionary Force?)
Scabbard : Double-stitched leather with steel top-mount and chape. Stamped "Mangrovite" (Australian) and "42" (1942). Many WW1 bayonets were re-issued for WW2 so it's not uncommon to find Pattern 1907 bayonets coupled with WW2 scabbards. The bayonet inserts and withdraws smoothly and is held firmly in the scabbard.
Length (bayonet) : 55 cm
Length (blade) : 43 cm
