An EXCELLENT example of a World War I, Princess Mary Christmas 1914 Tin w/ Insert attested to Lieutenant in Durban Light Infantry. This piece appears to be in a VF state of preservation , with detailed Embossed Graphic Relief on obverse. All insignia present. Evidence of handling/ age-related wear is visible on surface. Toning & residual verdigris may be noted - due to general age and environmental conditions. Tin opens and closes well, when engaged. Structural integrity is sound and tin is intact.
This item has been personally inscribed & attested to a Lieutenant H.M. Garrett of the 1st Durban Light Infantry Regiment.
A piece such as this, would have been issued to all Troops in Imperial Service, by commission of HRH Princess Mary - in order to provide comforts during the Christmas & New Year's Eve period of 1914-15.
