During WW1 1914 to 1919 Sporting Bodies in Allied and Central Power nations shifted from peacetime competition to supporting the war effort through fundraising, providing facilities, and boosting morale. As the conflict transitioned into battle of attrition, sporting activities - particularly football and boxing - were organized behind the lines and in training camps to maintain physical fitness and mental health.
Sporting institutions and clubs were active in organizing charity matches and events to raise funds for wounded soldiers and POW and general war funds.
