WW1 Trio to a South African. 1914-15 Star named to Pte. A. KERWAN 1st SAI. WM and BVM named to GNR. A KERWAN SAHA. Aubrey Edgar Kerwan was a 23 year old explosive worker from Cape Town who served with the DLI during the GSWA campaign and then joined the South African Heavy Artillery. He was posted to the 72nd Battery that saw action at Thiepval and Grandcourt then later Vimy Ridge. The Battery then supported the Canadians during further assaults into Belgium and whilst at Vallet Cottages at Zillerbeke operating from an exposed rear billet near Vlamertinga (48 hours at guns - 48 hours rest), GNR KERWAN became one of the 12 casualties suffered within 24 hours. He was laid to rest in the Brandhoek New Military Cemetery No.3. Medals sold with copy of service papers, SAHA cap badge (one lug broken), SAHA shoulder badge and photo of grave.
