WW2 1940 Army Issue Acme Thunderer Whistle. Dated with War Department Broad Arrow.
Dated to one side "1940" with the War Department broad arrow. To the other side the maker "J.Hudson & Co, Birmingham". To the mouthpiece "The Acme Thunderer".
The Acme Thunderer whistle was primarily used by RAF and USAAF aircrews as a "ditching whistle" to signal for rescue if forced down into the ocean, and by Air Raid Precautions (ARP) wardens to alert civilians to attacks. These loud, distinct whistles were essential for signaling and coordinating emergency rescue in high-stress, noisy, or low-visibility situations.
