WW2 German K98 Bayonet By "Jetter Und Scheerer" With Scabbard. Rare Maker.
Condition is very good with original bluing on blade, wood grips intact and a working locking button. There is runner wear near the tip, but otherwise the original finish on the blade is in good shape. The wood grip scales are in good condition. The bluing on the handle is still intact. The scabbard is in excellent condition for it's age with original bluing and no dents.
The pommel is Waffenamt marked "Eagle / WaA155" and the blade spine is stamped "38" for 1938 manufacture. The ricasso is stamped "5107" and "J.Sch." for "AG für Feinmechanik vorm. Jetter & Scheerer" located in Tuttlingen, Württemberg. Jetter und Scheerer produced S84/98 bayonets until 1941. This is quite a rare and desirable maker of K98 bayonets. The scabbard bears the marking "4665 e" and maker's stamp for Jos Corts with date "1937".
In 1935 the German military introduced the K98k bolt action rifle or Karabiner 98 Kurz, as a replacement for the older GEW98 or Gewehr 98. A new, shorter bayonet was designed to go along with the shortened rifle. The bayonet was designed as a close combat sidearm that could be placed on the tip of a K98.
