A Group of Four Second World War Medals to Miss Evelyn Mary Rawlinson, a Nursing Sister in the South African Medical Nursing Services.
All four impressed: “90981 E.M. Rawlinson”
Also there is a collection of an original document, an envelope and ribbons which are displayed in the images.
The sale is accompanied by 24 pages of documentation copied from the archives.
From these documents it can be gathered that Rawlinson volunteered for service as a nurse in August 1940 aged 26. During that year she served first at the Potchefstroom Military Camp and then at the Oribi Hospital in Pietermaritzburg. In January 1941 she was sent to Mombasa in Kenya and the end of that year to the South African Military Hospital in Egypt. She was promoted to nursing sister in 1942. She returned to South Africa in July 1943 and purchased her discharge in August presumably to Marry.
Note: I am also listing a WW2 medal group to her sister, EE Rawlinson, also a nurse with the SAMNS.
International buyers please contact me. Shipping by the South African Post Office is no longer possible. Alternative methods are available but these are either expensive or will take a long time.
