WW2 Italian Breda M35 "Red Devil" Hand Grenade (Inert).
A fine example of the WW2 Italian Breda M35 high explosive hand grenade. The Breda Model 35 grenade was one of three main Model 35 types used by the Italian Army during the Second World War. The grenade (also called the "Red Devil") was notorious for not exploding when thrown but would go off when picked up.
The grenade body is in two parts and features a cylindrical cup-shape base with a rolled on thread which mates with a similar thread rolled on to the flange of the coned top. Two diametrically opposed slots are cut into the top immediately above the flange. The body of the grenade is made from pressed aluminium, painted red and carries the safety cover which is painted black. Protruding from the side of the safety cover is the end of the brass safety strip to which is attached a fibre tab. The grenade is in good overall condition. The bottom can be unscrewed to view the interior. It is inert.
Size : 9.5 x 5.5cm
