WW2 - MEDAL GROUP - 96646 . Lt.D.J.De VILLIERS. SAAF (No.1 Squadron)
Please note that the 1939 Star & the Africa Star are unnamed replacements. Lt. DeVilliers is mentioned three times in the “History of No1 Squadron” by Capt.Voss ( page 443). Promoted to Lt. in 1941, he was equipment officer for No1 Squadron. His hand written war service diary is included with this medal group..He appears to have lost a brother / relative with the same initials Lt. D.J de Villiers, serving in the SAAF, this is confirmed in a condolence slip from King George which was with the above medal group. This would be a good research project.
