A WW2 Royal Navy trench art frame in solid, thick copper and brass (often manufactured from spent shell casings). The design comprises a large engraved "V for Victory", the royal crown, an anchor and is dated 1942. There are 3 heart-shaped openings for photo display.
The solid brass base is in the form of a submarine silhouette The white-painted back has 3 photo slots and a solid copper stand. 1942 was a significant year for the Royal Navy fleet in the Battle for the Mediterranean. It was tasked with starving the Axis Forces in North Africa of supplies, which it did with great success, culminating in the victory at El Alamein. This is a solid, heavy piece in good, original condition. An unusual and significant piece of military history.
Size: 27 x 20 cm
