A rare WW2 South African Brodie helmet with original inner and chin strap. Stamped Jaeger-Rand and 1940 with the SA Military Broad Arrow mark. Also stamped 6 3/4 (size). The front bears an insignia of what looks to be corporal rank stripes and the rear has a scratched-on swastika. Whether or not this was done during the war period or post-war is impossible to say There have been stories about Axis troops wearing captured helmets but this is unverified. The inside bears the name "R. Conradie" and another name "McLeod" is written under the inner along with "No. 19865" and what looks to be "C.B.M.". The helmet has some paint wear to the exterior with the camouflage paint still clear under the brim. Please note that there is a shallow dent to the top and the chin strap has detached on one side. Great collector's piece. Please see images above for more detail.
Diameter : Approx. 30cm
