Authentic World War II South African Technical Service Corps (TSC / TDK) Metal Cap Badge
Up for sale is a beautifully preserved, genuine World War II era cap insignia from the South African Union Defence Forces. Unlike many similar technical corps that were based directly on British designs, the South African Technical Service Corps holds a unique, standalone place in local military history. This specific bilingually inscribed pattern was worn by the "Tiffies" who kept vehicles, weaponry, and ordnance operationally fit on the front lines across East Africa, North Africa, and Italy. This variant was utilised between 1939 and 1949 before the unit changed its design to the horse and lightning bolt in the post-war era.
Key Features & Design Details:
Bilingual Scroll: The lower banner features crisp, raised lettering displaying "T.S.C." (Technical Service Corps) and "T.D.K." (Tegniese Dienskorps).
Unit Iconography: Central bomb motif representing ordnance repair, framed by a highly detailed, open-voided mechanical gear/pulley system symbolizing mobile field workshops.
Premium Reverse State: Features both original white-metal loop mounting lugs completely intact and unbent on the back. It has not been crudely converted into a pin, ensuring maximum structural integrity for collectors.
Condition: Excellent vintage, die-struck condition. The badge features a rich, dark natural patina in the recessed areas with minor age-appropriate oxidation and tiny hints of verdigris. It remains uncleaned to protect its historical character.
Please review the high-resolution photographs carefully, as they form part of the final item description.
