An original and deeply poignant World War I Memorial Scroll commemorating Private James Cathcart Stewart of the 4th Battalion, South African Infantry, who was killed in action at Delville Wood in 1916 one of the bloodiest battles fought by South African forces during the First World War.

Issued by the British Crown under King George V (GvR), this scroll was presented to the next of kin of fallen soldiers. It features the full-color Royal Coat of Arms and a solemn tribute printed in period Gothic script, concluding with the soldiers name hand-inscribed in red.

Delville Wood remains a symbol of sacrifice and endurance in South African military history, making this scroll not only a personal memorial but also a powerful historical artifact.

Condition: Original, with age-toned edges, some water staining, and minor tearsconsistent with its age and authenticity.

Historical relevance: Highly collectible, especially due to the soldiers death at Delville Wood.
