For sale are the medals to Clifford Acheson Blackburn - a Farmer from Grahamstown in the Eastern Cape he was born in 1888. In 1914 he enlisted with the 8th Mounted Rifles (Die Middelandse M.R.) for service in German South West Africa and was awarded the 1914/15 Star to the rank of Corporal with this regiment.
Returning home he joined the Free Masons in Grahamstown in 1916 but, seeing that the war continued, he went over to the UK and joined the RAF on 13 October 1918, a month before the end of the war. His other WWI medals were issued by the Imperial Authorities but were returned in 1924 and destroyed (confirmed on accompanying RAF record)
In WWII he enlisted again but was well over 50 years old and only saw home service for which he was awarded the War Medal 39/45 and the Africa Service Medal to 36681 C.A. Blackburn.
