1914-15 Star: Pte, 2nd S A H; War Medal & Victory Medal: Pte, S A S C; Africa Service Medal: NRV
Huntley John MacPherson was born in Dec 1888 and was one of the few men who attested for WWI service in East Africa and arrived in the operational area before the end of 1915, thus qualifying for the Star. He was discharged in Durban in Nov 1916, but re-attested in July 1918, this time in the SA Service Corps, and served a further 5 months in East Africa.
He was Mayor of Barberton (1934-35) and was a Past Master, Treasurer and Secretary of Lodge St John 747 SC, Barberton in the 1920’s (Two Masonic Jewels, one in gold). In this he followed in the footsteps of his father, who was Past Master of the same Lodge in 1903-04 (Gold Masonic Jewel).
During WWII MacPherson served for 5 years as Staff Sgt in the National Reserve Volunteers, Barberton “A” Detachment.
