The Xbox 360 can be soft-modded/flashed, which means that a mod-chip isn't necessary and that the process is entirely software-based. The work is usually completed within an hour. Soft-modding is more cost-effective and a simpler process to mod a console than a mod-chip. A hacked version of your original firmware, with certain checks removed, is flashed onto the drive.

It is very reliable and safe to do since there are no physical changes to the console. All drive versions are supported and we flash with only the latest i-Xtreme firmware. After flashing the console will operate exactly as it did before, but it will be able to read and play backup games.

*** UPDATE: 2 new versions of the liteon dvd-rom drive have recently been showing up in newer consoles. They are much more difficult to mod. The process requires soldering components in, cutting traces on the drive PC board, bridging certain points, etc. They are still moddable, though. I am one of the very few that can actually do these successfully, and I have enough experience with the newer drives to be able to offer this service to the public. This issue mostly affects new Elite consoles with a manufacture date (MFR) of Aug 09 and up. If your console does have a new drive and you want it flashed/modded, you'll have to leave the machine with me for about a day and the cost will be R450.
