You Are My Brother

This story document the life and brotherhood of two men living in the Apartheid era in South Africa, one from a rural Xhosa tribe and other from a privileged white family. Despite the differences in their cultures, and the restrictive laws of the Apartheid system, these two men come to know one another and over time form a lifelong bond.

Through their unlikely friendship, Hughes explores questions around basic human rights, privilege, society, belief, suffering and companionship. You Are My Brother is at times both tragic and hopeful a a frank and personal account of a political experiment with long lasting consequences.
