Zambesia England's El Dorado in Africa being a Description of Matabeleland & Mashonaland & an Account of the Gold Fields of British South Africa

Newspaper correspondent and later founder of the "Natal Advertiser" and the weekly "South Africa", Edward Peter Mathers became, as a result of his several and lengthy travels through southern Africa, an authority on the Witwatersrand gold fields. He here writes too of the history, natural and political, of the peoples and territories he visited, covering ancient Africa, Ophir and King Solomon's mines, the origin of the British South Africa Company, to territories north of the Zambezi.

Octavo published by King, Sell & Railton, Ltd. Original grey cloth, worn and marked in places, with bevelled edges and stamped gilt titling on the front, but which has disappeared almost entirely from the spine. The frontispiece portraitĀ of the author, listed in the index of illustrations, is not present. Three pages of advertisements precede the title page, and 15 more follow page 480, the last page of the general index. Two folding colour maps as called for are present and intact, though that of Zambesia has been slightly misfolded, with minor tears along an edge.
