(Cape Town: South African Library, 1973) Original pale blue boards, lettered in black on spine and upper cover; pp. (vi) + 74 + (iii). Spine slightly tanned; occasional fox spot. Very good condition. 'Moontlik onder invloed van "Kaatje Kekkelbek", wat in November 1838 met groot sukses in Grahamstad opgevoer is en op 4 Maart 1839 in The South African Sentinel verskyn het, plaas Meurant van 31 Oktober 1844 tot in 1850 in sy blad 'n groot aantal briewe en samesprake in Afrikaans, meestal deur homself geskryf. Sy bedoeling daarmee was om die laglus op te wek en sy blad populêr te maak, maar in die briewe en samesprake is ook ernstige sake behandel omdat Meurant ingesien het dat die grensboere Afrikaans veel makliker as Nederlands sou verstaan.' - From the introduction, by J. du P.
