Offered here is an original 1894 One Shilling from the Zuid-Afrikaansche Republiek (ZAR), one of the most collected issues from the Boer Republic period. Struck in 92.5% silver, this handsome coin represents the independent South African Republic during the presidency of Paul Kruger, several years before the Anglo-Boer War reshaped the region.
The reverse displays the denomination 1 SHILLING within a decorative oak wreath, with Z. AFRIK. REP. above and the date 1894 below. The obverse features the iconic portrait of President Kruger. With a mintage of 366,000 pieces, this date remains a desirable and historic example of pre-Union South African coinage.
An excellent addition for collectors of ZAR, Boer War era memorabilia, South African silver, or world crown-era coinage.
Condition VF
Very Fine overall with even circulation wear and attractive original detail remaining. Legends are clear, wreath detail visible, and date strong. Obverse portrait moderately worn but well defined. Surfaces show honest age-related handling marks with no major damage noted.
