Over the years binocular design really hasn't changed that much (unlike the constant advance of digital goods), so aside from the occasional reduction in weight and tiny improvements in optical quality, a great pair of binos bought 20 years ago are likely to be just as good today. After all, binoculars are essentially just tubes and lenses - no bells and whistles required.
