Zero Hour was released in the summer and fall of 1994. Its purpose was to tie up a lot of loose ends causéd by the twelve-part, Crisis On Infinite Earths storyline from the 1980s.
This latest adventure begins as a massive crisis in time is causing Earths time-space continuum to go haywire. All of Earths super-heroes are called in to help, including the original Justice Society and other older characters. It turns out that Hal Jordan, the Silver-Age Green Lantern, is trying to undo the event that eventually led to his earlier breakdown, the destruction of Coast City. Now, as Parallax, he fights the entire DC hero inventory. As a result of this series, DCs many Hawkman characters were merged into one. The entire original Justice Society (excluding the Spectre) was killed. Batgirl returned to Gotham, and the original Flash and Green Lantern were retired.
