This is a beautiful sequential set of five (5) Zimbabwe 100 Dollar banknotes, issued by the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe in 2007 during the height of the countrys hyperinflation crisis.
The obverse displays the iconic Chiremba Balancing Rocks of Epworth, a long-standing emblem of Zimbabwes economic stability, alongside Dr. Gideon Gonos signature.
The reverse depicts The Great Zimbabwe Ruins and a palm tree landscape, showcasing the nations cultural and natural heritage.
Each note in this lot is in Uncirculated (UNC) condition and features consecutive serial numbers, making it a perfect collectors strip from one of the most dramatic periods in African economic history.
By 2007, inflation in Zimbabwe had risen to astronomical levels, forcing the Reserve Bank to introduce new designs and denominations every few months.
The $100 note was among the higher denominations of its time yet by early 2008, it could barely buy a loaf of bread.
These notes were soon replaced by emergency bearer cheques and later by the trillion-dollar issues, making the 2007 Third Dollar series a fascinating prelude to the worlds most infamous hyperinflation.
