History: Toby jugs date back to the 1760s and were made in the potteries in Staffordshire, England. Usually designed as jovial or intoxicated figures, standing or seated, they depicted historical, fictional or popular characters. The Robin Hood jug on offer depicts a 600 year old hero, originally known as Robin of Loxley, a yeoman and outlaw who stole from the rich to give to the poor.
Description: The jug on offer was designed by Max Henk and its manufacture is dated 1959. The model number is D-6527. Robin Hood is shown with brown hat sporting a feather and oak leaves plus acorns with a bow and arrows as a handle. It shows the Royal Doulton backstamp and the registered numbers.
Condition: The jug remains in excellent condition with no sign of wear, chips, loss of paint.
