Description: Georgian Coffee Cup  and Saucer Circa 1810-1820. Ref. C/89
Maker: A number of companies could have produced this duo, namely Caughley, Miles Mason, Davenport, Rogers, Wedgwood, Spode, Copeland. This early transfer printed 'Broseley' or 'Two Temple' design was copied by numerous companies
Date:  Estimated age 1810-1820
History:  A typical Georgian duo in fine translucent white porcelain pearlware having a Two Temple or Broseley blue transfer printed design. The blue colour was the only colour at that time which withstood the high kiln temperatures during firing of the glaze.
Marks/Observations: Note the straight sided cup which was still popular in the 1800-1810 period. Also take note of the depth of the saucer and lack of a centre 'well' for the cup to rest in, all point to the early 1810-1820 era. A fairly heavy glaze, showing an 'orange-peel' effect and small black spots (due to contamination of coal dust from the kilns) also help to substantiate the date. Gilding on the rim, the handle and a gilded ring inside the cup and on the foot rim are evident
Condition: Very good throughout, some slight wear to the gilding as to be expected.
Dimensions:  Cup - Height 6.7cm to top of handle, diameter 7.6cm, saucer height 3.1cm, diameter 14.1cm
