An EXCELLENT example of a WW1 French Légion d'honneur Military Medal with Presentation Case in the Rank of Chevalier. This piece appears to be in a well-preserved state, with more than 95% of the original Enamel inlay remaining intact. The Figural bust of 'Marianne' retains the exquisite Gilded surface finish throughout.
The original Watered Silk Ribbon is in superb shape , and is accompanied by the issue Presentation Case with Silk Lining. Please Note , the Ribbon Bar Rosette for informal wear is no longer present. This award was founded in 1802 as France's highest National Order , by Napoleon Bonaparte and instituted to recognize merit for exceptional Military Conduct or Civil Service.
This unique piece has been handcrafted by the renown Parisian Jeweller, Albert Bacqueville- who has been resident in the Palais-Royal since 1900. The tradition of Medals manufactured by La Maison Bacqueville is associated with the reign of Napoleon III (1852-1870).
