Natural TANZANITE Bluish Violet - VVS
MAKE AN AWESOME RING OR PENDANT
It was discovered in 1967 in the hills of Northern Tanzania, which remains the sole source of tanzanite to this day. Exactly who made the discovery of tanzanite is the subject of some debate. According to some, the first tanzanite crystals were found by Masai tribesman, Ali Juuyawatu. Other reports state that the discoverer was Ndugu Jumanne Ngoma. Finally, a further account credits Manual de Souza with the discovery of tanzanite on July 7, 1967. Tanzanite was given its name by Tiffany & Co. who promoted the gemstone, resulting in its sudden popularity.
What is the value of Tanzanite and how much does Tanzanite cost?
The answer depends on the depth of colour and size. Commercial grade (low-end) Tanzanites may be found quite inexpensively for approximately $100 to $200 per carat in the smaller sizes (1ct). You will generally find this type of material in your local mall's jewellery stores. The colour of this grade of Tanzanite will range from a sky blue to purple and is not considered very valuable (or even desirable), but for many consumers, just being able to own a Tanzanite of any colour is considered a privilege. Rings manufactured from this type of material may generally be found for less than you might expect. But, remember that colour is the #1 factor for determining value of Tanzanite and, along with this, price. The current price for richly coloured Tanzanites in the 3 to 5 carat range is approximately $650 to $700 per carat, with full retail values routinely fetching $1000/ct or more. Other factors determining value and price are cut, clarity, carat weight and recent news related to supply.
