Alan Wolton was born in 1934. His formal art training began in 1954 at the Michaelis School of Art in Cape Town and continued at the Polytechnic School of Art in London. Whilst in London he was a frequent visitor to the National Gallery, the Tate Gallery and the Victoria and Albert, where he was greatly influenced by the work of the Old Masters.
