Two Waverley novels in one volume.

A Legend of Montrose is set in the 1640s in Scotland, while England was divided in a Civil War between Scottish supporters of King Charles, with the Marquis of Montrose as his champion and the Duke of Argyll as the leader of the Covenanter rebels. The Black Dwarf is set in the immediate aftermath of the Union between England and Scotland in 1707. The political action is centred on the first uprising to be attempted by Jacobites after the Union. The dwarf of the title is Sir Edward Mauley, who learns that his friend has betrayed him by marrying his intended bride. How does the dwarf plan to take vengeance?

Published by the Caxton Publishing Company, London. No publishing date in book, probably circa 1914. Condition: Fair. Some stains and marks on pages and cover. Back hinge open.
