Alan Whiteside was educated at Waterford Kamhlaba College in Swaziland. He obtained an MA in Development Economics at the University of East Anglia. He is currently director of the Health Economics and HIV/AIDS Research Division at the University of Natal.

Clem Sunter was educated at Winchester College. He went to Oxford University where he read Politics, Philosophy, and Economics. He serves on the Board of Governors of the South African Business Council on HIV/AIDS.
