Alocasia Regal Shield lives up to its name with dramatic, shield-shaped leaves that add a touch of royal elegance to any indoor collection. The foliage is broad, matte green on top, and a deep, velvety purple underneathcreating a stunning contrast whether viewed from above or below. Its upright growth and broad leaf span make it a bold centrepiece, especially in bright indoor corners or on a patio with filtered light.
Although it gives off a stately appearance, Regal Shield doesn't need complicated carejust a bit of consistency and warmth. These are full-sized plants, not plugs, and have already developed good leaf structure and form.
Alocasia Regal Shield Care Guide
🌿 Light:
Prefers bright, indirect light. It will tolerate some morning sun, but avoid harsh afternoon rays which can scorch the leaves.
💧 Water:
Water thoroughly when the top 23 cm of soil feels dry. Overwatering is a common mistakeensure your pot drains well. Cut back on watering slightly in winter.
🌱 Soil:
Choose a well-draining mix that holds moisture without becoming soggy. Use our Aroid Mix, or mix Barks Unlimited Potting Soil with Perlite for breathability.
🌡 Temperature:
Thrives between 1826°C. Keep away from cold draughts and sudden temperature drops.
🌸 Fertiliser:
During the growing season, feed once a month with an organic fertiliser or apply a controlled release fertiliser in spring.
🪴 Repotting:
Repot every year or two, or when the plant becomes rootbound. Freshen the soil and consider adding bark chips to increase aeration.
🐛 Pests:
Watch for spider mites and aphids. Keep the leaves clean and treat any signs of pests with insecticidal spray.
