Antique Signed Satsuma 'Meiji Period' Vase (Dragon & Immortals)

This stunning, hand painted, antique Japanese signed, Satsuma vase from the 'Meiji' (1868-1912) Period, is beautifully decorated with a white dragon (Kwannon) and numerous portraits of people known as the immortals. The vase is extensively painted with a white dragon in relief, weaving amongst eighteen immortals in their finely detailed gold robes.  This lovely, shaped vase stands 21cm high, has a diameter of 11cm at its widest, tapering down to a base diameter of 7cm and weighs 525g. It has a hairline crack near the top and appears to have had an early gilt touch-up around the shoulders. Other than this it's in amazing condition and when given the 'knock test' has a perfect sound.

Note: The people referred to as the Japanese immortals, were men of such greatness that they were unable to die and were forced to live a life of study, worship and poverty.
