Hotei in Japanese mythology is one of the Seven Gods of Luck. Laughing Buddhas are reminders for us to look on the bright side of life. They symbolize health, wealth and luck. He is standing on a sack of coins with a felt base which makes it more stable. His staff has broken off and has been repaired. There is also a chip on the bottom of the coins.
