Dinnerplate Dahlia | Elegant Pure White

Dahlia 'Snowbound' is a stunning dinnerplate variety boasting large, elegant pure white blooms with delicately ruffled petals that bring sophistication and charm to any garden or bouquet. This variety is a prolific bloomer, producing an abundance of flowers all season long on strong, tall plants.

Tuber Count: 1
Plant Height: 120cm
Plant Type: Tender perennial
Light Requirement: Full Sun
Blooms: Summer to First Frost
Plant Spacing: 45cm
Plant Staking: Yes, due to plant height

Dahlias are shipped as single tubers with at least one eye guaranteed. If planting is delayed, store tubers in a cool, dry, dark spot until ready.

Planting Information:

Plant dahlias after the last spring frost, once soil has warmed to 15°C. Choose a rich, well-drained flower bed or container. Loosen soil to 30cm depth, then mix in compost and all-purpose granular fertiliser. Plant tubers with the eye facing upwards about 8cm below soil surface. Firm soil around tuber to remove air pockets and water well. Ensure containers have drainage holes.

Tips for Growing Dahlias:

  1. Avoid overwatering newly planted tubers to prevent rot. Water well once at planting, then wait for sprouts before watering again.

  2. Water deeply once or twice a week, allowing the top 2.5cm of soil to dry out between waterings, and keep foliage dry to prevent disease.

  3. Feed with organic water-soluble fertiliser every 3—4 weeks until March, then stop to encourage good tuber dormancy.

  4. Regularly deadhead spent blooms by trimming just above a leaf node to encourage more flowers.

  5. Cut long flower stems for bouquets to promote branching and increased flowering.

  6. Dahlias rarely propagate true from seed, so care for your tubers well to maintain your stock.

  7. In most South African regions, tubers can overwinter in the ground. In colder areas, lift and store after the first frost.
