American Walnut Dining Room Suite from the 1940s: Long table glass top with 6 high-back chairs, 4 door and 3 drawer Buffet with glass top & Showcase. This suite is French Polished. There may be some veneered sections. All in all this well- cared-for suite still has many years of life left in it. There is no worm infestation in the wood & the condition of the entire suite is excellent considering its age - only normal wear-and-tear is evident with normal expected fading to the french polished surfaces, especially noticable on the unprotected unglassed surfaces such as the chairs backing.
Long table with glass top with 6 chairs: The glass is intact with no chips only very light superficial scratches from normal wear-and-tear. Table measurements: L = 185cm W = 98cm H = 80cm
BUFFET with glass top & tray:
The entire sideboard is 183cm L X 570cm W X 90cm H + back edge 4cm.
Both end doors and door with mirror are lockable.
The 7,5mm top glass has very light superficial scratches not really noticeable & there is a tiny chip on one edge. The plywood backing has a slight warp but is securely attached to the framework.
The felt covering in the cutlery drawer needs to be replaced. Draws are solid and strong.
The tray has a glass insert.
The mirror, drinks cabinet side, has some defects on the edges where the silver is no longer present but is whole, not cracked or chipped.
SHOWCASE: Height 157,5 cm
Top glassed section: 100cm L x 34,5cm W with 2 Glass shelves of 95cm L X 28cm D each.
Bottom all wood 107cm L X 36,5 cm W and the Base is 109,5cm L.
All glass is 7mm thick.
Comprises: 2 removable glass shelves (chips on edges), 2 glass sliding doors on a steel roller (chipped on edge where they move on the roller & one has a small scratch not normally noticeable). 2 wooden lockable doors on the bottom section. The wooden plywood back is slightly warped in the middle & needs to be tacked to the frame work a minor adjustment.
Despite the flaws mentioned this showcase is a very lovely presentable & beautiful piece with adequate display areas for those special pieces one so much wants to put on show and protect.
