ITEM DESCRIPTION:
DUTCH LANGUAGE BIBLE IN POOR CONDITION.
Dutch language Bible in poor condition (1899 edition). A few items were found between the pages – a lock of hair, a piece of cloth, an address of someone at the “Old Goal, Pretoria” and a printed newspaper “Daily Telegram” dated 24 October 1899 and reporting on casualties at Elandslaagte.
It is unimaginable that a Boer family would allow a Bible to deteriorate into this condition! There must be a reason for this. The previous owner passed away over forty years ago however an aged relative recalls that a farm near Pietersburg was mentioned as well as the names Botha and Vogel. It was also mentioned that the Bible was used at St. Helena. There is unfortunately no proof of this whatsoever.
CONDITION:
The Bible itself is in poor condition – please view illustrations. Loose pages all over and a few very badly damaged pages. The majority of the pages are in good condition. The contents found between the pages are in good condition.
