Condition: very good - the binding of this volume is in good condition, as are the boards; the only issue is the fairly heavy sporadic foxing throughout the text (see images) mostly occurring at the beginning and end of the book. The majority of pages (about 75%) are clear of this foxing. Occasional pencil notations in places, rear endpapers with copious pencil notes inscribed, binding cracked at pp. 200/201 (but not badly so), with the tipped-in map opposite page 1 also being affected by foxing.

A very scarce volume dealing with the discovery of diamonds, gold on the Reef, the Matabele War, land purchasing, Rhodes, Boer Commandoes, etc... an amazing account of the early pioneer history of South Africa.
