The first complete English translation of "Expediçao Portugueza a M'Pesene", published 1889-1892, by Carl Wiese. Wiese was a German hunter and trader who led an unofficial Portuguese mission to the court of the Ngoni king Mpezeni. His journal is the only contemporary description of the culture and politics of early Zambia, Malawi and Mozambique.
