Rare Georgian Silver Table Snuff Box (1830)
This fabulous, superb quality, antique, solid silver presentation table snuff box is rectangular in shape with a hinged lid. It is beautifully decorated and engraved with repousse flowers and acanthus leaves around the top with a 'engine turned' pattern on the sides, base and across the middle of the lid. There's also an engraved inscription on the inside of the lid which reads, 'Presented by The Bormondsey Friendly Tradesman's Society to Mr. Joseph Downer in testimony of his zealous & efficient Services as their Secretary, 21st July 1846'. This elegant large snuff box was made in London, England in 1830 by silversmith 'Michael Starkey' (M.S), and other than a very minor repair to a corner of the lid, it's in exceptional condition with its original gold-gilt interior and nice clear hallmarks. It measures 9,2cm x 6cm x 2,6cm and weighs 136g.
