Description: French Art Nouveau enameled frosted glass vase. Circa 1890-1910. Ref No. GL/17

Maker: French Art Glass attributed to Mont Joye, Legras.

Date: Estimated 1890 - 1910

History: Legras was well known for his enameled Iris frosted glass vases but many of his pieces are unmarked and identifying the maker correctly is difficult. Mont Joye, St. Denis, St. Martin, Moser, Carl Goldberg, Emile Galle all produced similar pieces and the list goes on and on. The Iris was very much in vogue in the late 1800s.

Description: This is an unusual oval shaped frosted glass vase, beautifully enameled with two blue irises and daisy flowers. The upper part of the vase has a green colouration with a gilded rim. The stalks and the leaves were gilded although some of the gilding has been lost through wear. The base is slightly inverted and shows the number 3. No signature or makers mark is found, not really surprising as many of the earlier pieces were not marked. It is hand-blown, the glass does show some small bubbles and some inclusions as well as a slight bulge in the centre.

Condition: Overall in good condition, no cracks of chips but some loss to the gilding.

Dimensions: The vase stands just over 16 cm in height and the oval sides measure 5cm and the larger side 7 cm.
