2001. Hardcover with dustcover, 469 pages. Very good condition. Tightly bound, neat and clean. Gift inscription in front. Parcel under 1kg.

A richly detailed account of the author's life set against the backdrop of a declining British Empire. The author grew up as the son of a Colonial Service Officer in Figi, Penang and Singapore and his future was radically changed by the outbreak of the Second World War when he was a schoolboy in England and happened to be visiting his parents in Nigeria. He later returned to South Africa and was faced with making choices as Britain divested itself of its colonies.
