With stunning full-page colour drawings by Kay Nielsen from the great Golden Age of Illustration in children's literature.
A book worth buying just for the art. Fifteen Nordic and Norwegian folk-tales in an old-fashioned fairytale book selected from the Norske Folkeeventyr of Asbjørnsen and Jørgen Engebretsen Moe. Some of the stories are known, others less so, all accompanied by the dazzling colour and black and white illustrations of Kay Nielsen (1886-1957). Nielsen was a Danish artist belonging to the Golden Age of Illustration, a period of unparalleled excellence in book illustration. He was influenced by Japanese art and Swedish folklore, becoming a crucial participant in the Art Nouveaux movement. Large format hardcover book. No jacket.
Published circa 1920 by Hodder and Stoughton, London. Condition: Fair to good. Foxing and stains on some pages but all text and illustrations clear. Previous owner's name in front. Cover has wear and tear, especially at top of spine.
PS: Have a look at my other books - up to 6 medium books fit into one Paxi bag. It still costs R60 for the whole bag.
