Scotsman John Buchan (the first Baron of Tweedsmuir) was a remarkable man, making an impression on everyone he met.

Not only was Buchan a very successful writer of thrillers, historical novels, histories and biographies, but also a great statesman. After a brief career in law he went to South Africa in 1902 to help with the reconstruction of the country after the Boer War. At the time of his death he was Governor General of Canada. One of his most famous novels was The Thirty-Nine Steps, later made into a film by Alfred Hitchcock.

First edition published 1947 by Hodder and Stoughton, London. Dust jacket in reasonable condition with tears at edges, folds and spine. Cloth-covered hardback discoloured front and back. Brown stains on front and back endpapers. Pages clean and neat. Binding sturdy.
