Wenda het 'n kunstenaarsiel en sy wil mal word van verveling op die kleingeestige dorpie Kromburg. En haar man is maar 'n goedsak wat tevrede is met 'n bord kos, baie slaap en 'n paar klante meer. Wenda ontvlug haar saai lot deur by 'n reisende toneelgeselskap aan te sluit. Maar ook hier loop dinge skeef. Uiteindelik, op pad huis toe in 'n goederetrein, besef sy dat Kromburg, en haar man, haar ware tuiste is.
Tweede druk 1938. Gepubliseer deur Nasionale Pers, Kaapstad, Bloemfontein en Port Elizabeth. Toestand: Binne goed. Hardebandomslag het vlekke. Rug op twee plekke beskadig, maar band nog stewig en alle blaaie vas.
