Boards lightly shelf-rubbed with a couple of small, insignificant marks. Corners lightly rubbed, but not scuffed or frayed. Heel of spine bumped and creased, lightly rubbed, but not scuffed or frayed. Author name, title and publisher in gilt lettering distinct and clearly legible on spine. Light bumps to upper and lower edges of the boards. Some foxing and age-toning to edges of front endpapers. 20mm closed tear on p. 37. Small brown stain pp 65-68, migrating into margins of two of the b&w plates. Tiny chip in top edge p. 257. Aside from these defects both text block and the plates are clean and still remarkably crisp. No inscriptions, no underlining or highlighting, no annotations or marginalia. Binding secure, no loose or missing pages.
