Inspiration Behind the Painting:
There are so many abandoned cottages out in the Karoo countryside where I live.
This is a stark scene with a desoloate, perhaps even abandoned, abode. The road winds up to the cottage that has a bare tree, a reminder that nothing is permanent. I wanted to capture the loneliness and sense of isolation with this scene. Also the mystery of what this home once looked like, the life that, in it's infancy, bounced off the walls. Perhaps a family stayed there with children playing in the yard, under the tree. Or maybe it was an elderly couple.
The only constant is change.
