The Philodendron Gloriosum is a true showstopper! With massive, velvety heart-shaped leaves that can grow to jaw-dropping sizes, this beauty is a must for collectors. These are available in 14cm and 19cm pots but be warned, they won't stay small for long. As a creeping philodendron, it will eventually need a longer pot to stretch out its underground stem and keep those big leaves coming.
Botanical name: Philodendron gloriosum
Commonly known as: Gloriosum
If you're looking for a plant that oozes elegance and presence, the Philodendron Gloriosum is it. Unlike many philodendrons that climb, the Gloriosum is a creeper. Its thick stem creeps along the soil, pushing up those incredible, velvet-textured, heart-shaped leaves that can grow to more than 40cm wide with the right care.
We have two sizes available 14cm and 19cm pots and both are already well established. At the moment, they're in standard round pots, but it's advisable to repot them into a longer, rectangular pot as they grow. This gives the stem space to move forward and produce new leaves without crowding itself.
Light: These guys do well in bright, indirect light. Too much sun will scorch those gorgeous leaves, but too little will slow growth.
Water: Keep the soil lightly moist never soggy. You can let the top 23cm dry out before watering again. But make sure that you water deeply.
Temperature & Humidity: Loves warmth (1827°C) and higher humidity. If your home is dry, consider a humidity tray or grouping it with other plants. Keep them in your warmest room in winter as they don't like the cold.
Soil: For optimal drainage and healthy roots, you can use our premixed Aroid Mix, or you can create your own potting mix using Barks Unlimited Potting Soil combined with Perlite.
Fertiliser: Feed monthly in spring and summer with a controlled release fertiliser or organic fertiliser to keep those leaves lush. They are heavy feeders so you can also supplment with our High Nitrogen Fertilizer
Repotting Tip: Move to a longer pot once you see the stem reaching the edge. You can also use Bark Chips when repotting to keep the mix airy.
Pests: Watch for mealybugs and spider mites. Wipe leaves regularly and treat with insecticidal spray if needed.
