Scarce Antique 'Ngombe' Executioners Short Sword (Ngulu)
This scarce, antique, 'Ngombe' short sword or 'Ngulu' executioner and ceremonial sword from the early 1900's, is from the Congo (DRC) in central Africa and is one of the most popular African swords due to its unusual and terrifying appearance. It has a hand forged, wide iron blade with three prongs or ridges and a large double edged, sickle hook-like blade tip, all decorated with line grooves and engraved African symbols. The handle is made of either horn or wood and some sort of binding with what appears to be a glossy waxed finish. Other than some light surface pitting it's in great condition and a nice example of this scarce piece. The sword measures 56cm in length, the blade measures 45cm with a width going from 5cm to 20cm at its widest and weighs 465g.
