This is the story of the young Gideon Scheepers, a Boer guerilla warrior and commandant in the war against the British, the Boer War or the South African War. I thought that it would be a bit dry but I enjoyed it thoroughly, right through to its tragic ending when Scheepers had surrendered to the British because he was extremely ill with enteric fever and possibly appendicitis, only for them to try him on spurious changes, find him guilty and have him shot just months before the wars end. He was 23.
