Buck (Step Down) Switching Regulator, Fixed, 8V-40V In, 12V And 5A Out, TO-263-7Product OverviewThe LM2678S-12/NOPB is a SIMPLE SWITCHER® high efficiency Step-down VoltageRegulator provides all of the active functions for a step-down (buck) switchingregulator capable of driving up to 5A loads with excellent line and loadregulation characteristics. High efficiency (>90%) is obtained through the useof a low ON-resistance DMOS power switch. This regulator is available in fixedoutput voltage of 12V version. The SIMPLE SWITCHER® concept provides for acomplete design using a minimum number of external components. A 260KHz highfixed frequency oscillator allows the use of physically smaller sizedcomponents. A family of standard inductors for use with this regulator isavailable from several manufacturers to greatly simplify the design process. TheLM2678 series also has built in thermal shutdown, current limiting and an ON/OFFcontrol input that can power down the regulator to a low 50µA quiescent currentstandby condition.
